Over the last ten years or so, IT security would have exploded as a field, both in terms of the complexity as well as the breadth of the subject matter, and the opportunities which would be available to security-focused IT professionals. Security has become an intrinsic part of everything in IT, from network management to application, web as well as database development. But even with the increased focus on security, there would be still much work to be done in the field, as well as opportunities for security-minded IT professionals wouldn’t be likely to decrease any time soon. Do check out the training courses which are being offered at the SPOTO Club, if you wish to acquire this certification without any hustle. The Importance of Certifications For those who would be already in the IT security field, or would be looking to enhance their career, there would be a range of certifications as well as training options available for those who would be willing to learn about IT security and would be demonstrating that the knowledge to potential and current employers. However, a lot of the more advanced IT security certifications would require a level of experience, knowledge, as well as the commitment that might be outside of the range of lots and lots of newer IT professionals. A good certification would be demonstrating the basic security knowledge is considered to be the CompTIA Security+ certification. Unlike other certifications, like the CISM or the CISSP, the CompTIA Security+ wouldn’t be having any mandatory prerequisites or experience, though CompTIA Security+ does recommend that the candidates would be having at least two years of experience with networking in security and general in particular. CompTIA Security+ also would be suggesting that CompTIA Security+ candidates would be obtaining the CompTIA Network+ certification, but they wouldn’t be requiring it. Even though the CompTIA Security+ is considered to be more of an entry-level certification than others, it would be still a valuable certification in its own right. In fact, the CompTIA Security+ is considered to be a mandated certification for the US Department of Defense as well as is accredited by both the ANSI (American National Standard Institute) and the ISO (International Organization for Standardization). Another benefit of the CompTIA Security+ is that it is considered to be the vendor-neutral, instead of choosing for the focusing on security technologies and topics in general, without limiting its focus to any one vendor as well as their approach. Topics Covered by the CompTIA Security+ Examination The CompTIA Security+ is considered to be basically a generalist certification meaning that it would be evaluating a candidate’s knowledge across a range of knowledge domains, as divergent for focusing on any one area of IT Certification. So, instead of preserving a focus on application security only, say, the questions on the CompTIA Security+ would be covering a broader range of topics, that would be aligned according to the six primary knowledge domain which would be defined by CompTIA: • Network Security (21%) • Compliance and operational security (18%) • Threats and vulnerabilities (21%) • Application, Data, and Host Security (16%) • Access control and identity management (13%) • Cryptography (11%) The exam would be providing the questions from all of the domains above, although it is considered to be somewhat weighted for giving more emphasis on some areas. Good, broad knowledge of all the domains which would be listed above remains the best way for the preparation for the test. Hence, if you wish to acquire this certification, I would recommend you to gain the study dumps, which are being offered at the SPOTO Club, for achieving the same.

    I. EIGRP Concept  EIGRP uses the Diffused Update Algorithm (DUAL) algorithm to calculate the shortest path to the target network. EIGRP is a private routing protocol invented by Cisco, developed from IGRP, but the algorithm has been greatly changed. EIGRP is the same as IGRP and RIP. A dynamic routing protocol using DV algorithm. The algorithm of EIGRP has been greatly changed.Although it is a dynamic routing protocol that uses DV algorithm like IGRP and RIP, it has greatly improved the convergence speed, occupied network bandwidth and system resources, and has fast convergence For loopless route calculation, the DUAL update algorithm EIGRP can ensure that 100% does not form a loop. The convergence speed makes it impossible for the EIGRP protocol to generate loop routes in route calculation, and the convergence time of route calculation is also well guaranteed.  Because the DUAL algorithm allows EIGRP to calculate the route, it will only recalculate the changed route; for a route, only the router affected by this route will be involved in the route recalculation. During normal operation, the network resource utilization rate is very low; only Hello packets are transmitted on a stable network. EIGRP can also control the EIGRP packets sent, reducing the occupation rate of EIGRP packets on the interface bandwidth, thereby avoiding the continuous sending of a large number of routing packets Things that affect the normal data business occur.  EIGRP (Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol) employs critical metrics such as AD (Administrative Distance), FD (Feasible Distance), FC (Feasibility Condition), and FS (Feasible Successor) to optimize routing decisions. In EIGRP, AD represents the trustworthiness of a route, and lower values indicate higher reliability. The routing table lists routes learned from multiple routing protocols, each with its AD. To modify the administrative distance for a specific protocol, like EIGRP, use commands such as "r1 config router distance." FD, on the other hand, measures the total cost of reaching a destination, computed by routers. EIGRP uses this metric to select the best path to a destination network. FC is crucial in EIGRP's topology database, where it ensures that only routes satisfying the condition (AD < FDmin) are stored as feasible successors. To view EIGRP routes and their metrics, employ the "show ip route command." In situations where redundancy is essential, a floating static route can provide backup options. Routers like R1 can thus make efficient routing decisions based on these metrics for a resilient network infrastructure. II. What is eigrp dual algorithm  Although EIGRP is a distance vector routing protocol, after receiving a route from a neighbor, it is not directly used in the routing table without any calculation. EIGRP will put all the routes received from the neighbor into the topology database (Topology Database ), The optimal route is put into the routing table after calculation by DUAL's acyclic algorithm; because EIGRP may have multiple neighbors or may receive the same route from multiple neighbors, it is necessary to select the optimal route from Routes are put into the routing table for use instead of the optimal route. The route is backed up in the topology database. After the route in the routing table fails, the alternate route is searched from the topology database and placed in the routing table. After EIGRP puts the routing information received from neighbors into the topology database, it needs to select the optimal route through the DUAL algorithm. DUAL is a convergence algorithm, which replaces the Belloman-ford algorithm used for other distance vector protocols. The design idea of the DUAL algorithm is that even a temporary routing loop will damage the performance of a network, so in order to break the routing loop at any time, a distributed shortest path routing is performed using diffusion calculation.  The DUAL algorithm has several important terms--AD / FD / FC / FS    III. AD value  For the router E, the metric value of the B\C \ D routers reaching the Z network respectively is called the AD value of E. That is, the distance from the neighbor to the destination network segment (advertised distance), such as the E-B-Z path, for the E router, its AD value is 10.  IV. FD value  For router E, the total metric of the path reached by E-B-Z, called the FD value of E, is calculated from the local router to the sum of the metrics between the target networks. For example, the path of E-B-Z, for the E router, its FD value is : 20 (E-B) + 10 (B-Z) = 30; there may be multiple paths to the destination in the EIGRP topology database, and the optimal one put in the routing table is called the easy distance (FD)  V. Successor router:  The successor is a directly connected neighbor router, through which it has the shortest route to the destination. That is, the next-hop router with FD min In the three paths of E-B-Z, E-C-Z, and E-D-Z, C is the successor router for E, because the FD of E-C-Z is 20 Feasible successor router (FS) value: Because there may be multiple paths in the topology database to reach the destination, but the one selected as the optimal FD is put into the routing table, and the alternate route left in the topology database is called Easy Successor (FS ), Choose FS must meet FC conditions.  VI. FC value:  There can be up to 6 FSs in the topology database. If an EIGRP has 8 neighbors that can go to the destination, after selecting an FD and putting it into the routing table, not all the other 7 can be stored in the topology database. The topological database can only have a maximum of 6 (including FD), and it is not necessarily that 6 will be put into the topological database, because to be stored in the topological database, it must meet certain conditions, called Feasibility Condition ( FC), if AD <FDmin is satisfied, it is considered feasible, and the path of this neighbor can exist in the topology database. Take the above diagram as an example, FDmin = 20, and the FC condition must be satisfied, that is, AD <20. For the three paths of E-B-Z, E-C-Z, and E-D-Z, the AD of E-B-Z is 10, the AD of E-C-Z is 10, and the AD of ED-Z is 25, so only the two paths of E-B-Z and E-C-Z satisfy the FC condition, that is, only the two of E-B-Z and E-C-Z The path will be selected into the topology database.  VII. Overview of L2VPN Interworking L2 transport over MPLS and IP already exists for like-to-like ACs, like Ethernet-to-Ethernet or PPP-to-PPP. L2VPN Interworking would be building on this functionality by allowing disparate ACs to be connected. An interworking function is going to facilitate the translation between the different encapsulations of L2. Only the following interworking combinations are going to be supported: ATM-to-Ethernet - Bridged interworking ATM-to-Ethernet - Routed interworking Frame Relay-to-Ethernet - Bridged interworking HDLC-to-Ethernet - Bridged and Routed interworking PPP-to-Ethernet - Routed interworking L2VPN Interworking Modes L2VPN interworking works in either Ethernet (bridged) module or IP (routed) module. L2VPN interworking doesn’t go to support Ethernet VLAN (Type 4) module. If you are appearing for Lab exam of Cisco, you would require to have a good prep course, like it is being offered by the SPOTO. You could specify the modules in the following ways: If using the older legacy CLI commands, you could use the internetworking {ethernet | ip } command in the mode of pseudowire-class configuration. If using the newer L2VPN protocol-based CLI commands, you could use the interworking {ethernet |ip } command in the mode of xconnect configuration. The interworking command would be going to causes the ACs to be terminated locally. The two keywords would be performed to the following functions: The ethernet keyword would be causing Ethernet frames to be extracted from the AC and sent over the pseudowire. Ethernet end-to-end transmission would be resumed. AC frames that are not Ethernet would be dropped. In the case of VLAN, the VLAN tag is going to be removed, leaving an untagged Ethernet frame. The ip keyword would be causing IP packets to be extracted from the AC and sent over the pseudowire. AC frames that don’t contain IPv4 packets would be dropped. The following sections would be able to explain more about Ethernet as well as IP interworking modes: Ethernet or Bridged Interworking IP or Routed Interworking Ethernet or Bridged Interworking Ethernet interworking which is also known as bridged interworking. Ethernet frames are considered to be the bridge across the pseudowire. The CE routers could be natively bridging Ethernet or it could be routing by utilizing a bridged encapsulation model, like the BVI (Bridge Virtual Interface) or RBE (Routed Bridge Encapsulation). The PE routers would be operating in Ethernet like-to-like modules.  IP or Routed Interworking IP interworking which is also known as routed interworking. The CE routers which would encapsulate the IP on the link between the CE router as well as PE router. A new VC type would be utilized to signal the IP pseudowire in MPLS. Translation between the L2 as well as IP encapsulations across the pseudowire would be required. Special consideration needs to be given to the address resolution as well as routing protocol operation because these are going to be handled differently on different L2 encapsulations. Therefore, address resolution should be terminated on the PE router. End-to-end address resolution is not going to be supported. Routing protocols operate differently over broadcast as well as point-to-point media. For Ethernet, the CE routers must either use static routing or configure the routing protocols so as to treat the Ethernet side as a point-to-point network. In routed interworking, IP packets that would be needed to get extracted from the ACs are sent over the pseudowire. The pseudowire works in the IP Layer 2 transport like-to-like module. The interworking function at NSP’s (network service provider) end performs that would be required adaptation based on the AC technology. Non-IPv4 packets would be dropped. So, there were certain things which you would be needed to know regarding the L2VPN Internetworking. If you are pursuing a Lab exam of Cisco, you should check out the courses, which would be offered by the SPOTO.

Telnet has become an almost obsolete term, with its origins tracing back to 1969 when it was initially developed. By 1973, it became a general utility used for communication between computers and machines, primarily over local area networks (LANs). Telnet is defined as a network protocol used over the internet or LANs that provides bidirectional, interactive, text-oriented communication through a virtual terminal connection. This is the original definition of Telnet, as defined by Wikipedia. Security Issues and the Rise of SSH The Telnet facility was later replaced by other protocols due to its lack of security. It does not encrypt passwords or other sensitive information, which could be manipulated by anyone with control over the connecting devices, such as routers. All data sent and received through Telnet is unencrypted, making passwords and sensitive details vulnerable to theft. In response to these security concerns, the SSH protocol (Secure Shell) was introduced, providing a far more secure alternative for accessing the command line interface on remote hosts. Due to the serious security risks associated with Telnet over open networks like the internet, its use has significantly declined in favor of SSH. However, despite being replaced by more secure protocols, Telnet is still in use by many applications and developers/administrators. Ongoing Use of Telnet in Modern Networking Despite its lack of security and being a text-based protocol, Telnet is still used for configuring network devices, including modern routers connected via LAN or internet services. This means that Telnet can still be useful in configuring network devices, even in today's modern networking era. Additionally, many online chat services, once popular in developing countries, are still based on Telnet. These services allow users to interact through a command-line interface to chat with others from around the world. Telnet in Remote Administration and Data Access Another important use of Telnet is by administrators to remotely access specific computers and retrieve data with full user privileges. While protocols like FTP can also be used to access files on remote systems, Telnet allows the administrator to log into the system in a manner similar to a regular user, providing control over the system's operations. Telnet's Continued Role in Computer Networking Despite its security shortcomings, Telnet remains widely used in the computer networking industry. Individuals with Cisco certifications, for example, often work with Telnet through its command-line interface to access and troubleshoot computer systems. Telnet, initially developed for sending and receiving data between two machines with at least one live user involved in the process, is a text-oriented protocol that does not support graphics or user interfaces, nor does it allow file transfers. Conclusion In summary, Telnet has both its pros and cons, with applications across various fields of computing. While it may not be as vital as it was in the early days of computing, it still plays a role in specific use cases. Over time, with technological advancements, computing has evolved and transformed the way we interact with the world. Today, computers are integral to almost every aspect of daily life, business, and industry, replacing many manual processes with more efficient, digital solutions.

In today's interconnected world, computer networks play a crucial role in enabling communication and data transfer. Two fundamental types of networks, Wide Area Networks (WANs) and Local Area Networks (LANs), serve different purposes and offer distinct advantages. In this article, we'll explore the differences between WANs and LANs, their advantages, and how they complement each other in modern network architectures. What is a Wide Area Network (WAN)? A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a geographically distributed telecommunications network that interconnects multiple Local Area Networks (LANs) across different locations. WANs enable communication and data exchange between distant sites, such as a company's headquarters, branch offices, data centers, and cloud services. The internet itself is the most prominent example of a WAN, facilitating global connectivity. What is a Local Area Network (LAN)? A Local Area Network (LAN) is a computer network that spans a relatively small geographical area, typically confined to a single building, office, or campus. LANs allow devices within a localized environment to communicate and share resources efficiently. Devices on a LAN can often communicate directly with each other without the need to traverse the public internet, enabling faster data transfer speeds. Key Differences between WANs and LANs: Geographical Coverage: WANs span a wide geographical area, while LANs are limited to a smaller, localized region. Network Ownership: WANs are typically owned and managed by telecommunication providers or internet service providers (ISPs), while LANs are typically owned and managed by organizations or individuals. Speed and Latency: LANs generally offer higher data transfer speeds and lower latency compared to WANs due to their localized nature and direct connections between devices. Security: LANs are typically more secure than WANs since they are confined within a limited physical area and can be isolated from external threats more easily. Advantages of LANs: Cost-effective: Implementing a basic LAN is relatively inexpensive compared to establishing a WAN infrastructure. Easy Management: LANs are easier to control and manage since they are contained within a small geographical area. High-Speed Communication: LANs support high data transfer rates, enabling efficient sharing of files, printers, and other resources among connected devices. Centralized Resources: With file servers connected to the LAN, sharing files and folders among users becomes streamlined and efficient. Enhanced Security: It is easier to implement security protocols and protect LAN users from external threats and unauthorized access. While LANs excel in providing localized connectivity and resource sharing, WANs are essential for enabling communication and data exchange between geographically dispersed locations. Many modern network architectures combine the strengths of both WANs and LANs, utilizing WANs to interconnect LANs across different sites, enabling seamless communication and collaboration within organizations. If you're pursuing Cisco certifications or seeking to enhance your networking knowledge, SPOTO Online Training Certifications is an excellent resource. Their comprehensive training programs cover a wide range of topics, including LAN and WAN technologies, ensuring you stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and best practices.
